Just Cruising

Skateboarding has usually been a touchstone for me. I got my 1st skateboard at age 10 (prolonged, lengthy ago) and spent much of my time with my best friend, Denice, cruising around our neighborhood, acting like we had been surfing the waves of Waimea as we zoomed down freshly-paved asphalt streets on clay wheels and solid wood decks with no grip tape (that’s what the gummy soles of our Van’s had been made for, ya know).
So even now, when I get on my board, the feeling of happy days return.
Maybe that’s why lately I’ve been far far more interested in just…skating. When I got back into the sport in 2004, I caught the bug to find out new tricks, to drop in, etc. I hired seriously awesome pro Kim Petersen to coach me for a few sessions.
But somewhere along the line, I either got restless with the mechanics of it all, or too chicken to push myself, or…something. And suddenly the urge for a extended strip of smooth asphalt crept back into my consciousness. I began hankering for pure, unadulterated F-L-O-W, the feeling of zooming, the essence of skateboarding, the touchstone of my pleased childhood.
I salute and cheer for all who push their limits, find out new tricks, inspire us, amaze us, and are somehow not swayed by slams (or the fear thereof!). Im thrilled that there is now a body of women to show the world what we can do on a skateboard. And I’m content as hell that I can watch from the sidelines, applauding all of you for taking risks big and little, whilst I go back to an earlier time and just…zoom.
Later skaters!

Togetherness

If you’ve read anything about women who skateboard, you’ll know that for each and every individual skateboarding means a multitude of things.

For some it is their meditation, or their probability to bond with friends, or an chance to push themselves or any combination of these and numerous other things. For me it really depends on the day as to what it’s, but anytime I am on the park with my family it’s a great chance to bond with my youngsters and share a thing we truly love to accomplish.

Getting in a sport that genuinely focuses on individualism, my kids and I certainly do not skate hand in hand. My son is commonly over on the big bowl dropping from the deep side trying to complete some thing new and daring. My daughter is typically zipping by means of the parts of the park she likes or challenging herself to go increased and higher inside the vert ramp. I’m normally pushing myself to do just one new factor each time we are in the park even if it is small. We do our own factor.

That becoming said we’re there for a single another to cheer on, sympathize by way of the falls and have a great laugh. There’s nothing better than showing my kids that I learned a thing new and having them cheer me on, and vice versa. Our time at the skate park is not just about what we do as people, but rather a time for us to share, bond and appreciate one particular another’s accomplishments.

As my youngsters grow older and move into getting teenagers, I can only hope that this time together is anything we can share. Even when they want their distance the skatepark and the sport of skateboarding will enable for that. Skateboarding will always be what I need it to be personally regardless of whether that’s flow, challenge, or meditation. I can only hope it really is also generally a chance for me to spend time with my children.

Skating Is What You Make Of It

22 August, 2010 (13:33) | Skateboarding Lifestyle | By: admin

A single in the excellent things about skating is that it can take so a lot of diverse forms. You can carve bowls one day, and grind a rail the following. Go screaming fast down a large hill right now, and roll around town tomorrow.

Not into flip tricks? You possibly can go for flow. Cruise and connect a single part on the park to the next. Begin a little journey on your board … and see where it takes you. Make every turn a tribute; each and every push a flawless work of art.

It happens to us all the time. Yesterday we woke up bursting with determination, and attacked concrete, shredding everything in sight. Currently we really feel like taking it quick, and skate just to feel the wind in our hair as well as the sun on our faces. No apologies. That’s just the way it is.

Skaters who hate on diverse skating styles? They’re just lost. Skaters who say you’ve to rip it up every single time you roll? Lost.

Skating is whatever you need it to be, even so you need to do it.
What kind of skater are you nowadays?

Studying To Drop In Doesn’t Have to Hurt

18 August, 2010 (17:49) | Skateboard Tricks Tips | By: admin

You do not really have to know the way to decrease in to skate well and have fun. We’ve met some awesome old school skaters who have skated their entire lives without ever dropping in. It just isn’t required should you know ways to pump efficiently.

So we’re not saying you must understand to decrease in in the event you really do not want to.
What we’re saying is, should you would like to, it doesn’t have to hurt.

You’ve possibly seen the typical skater learning to decrease in at your park. He’s about seven years old. Perhaps he’s wearing pads and a helmet, maybe he’s not. Goaded by his buddies, he teters on the deck with the ramp or bowl, and gingerly places the tail of his board for the coping. His close friends yell helpful instructions for example, “Dude you just gotta commit!” After waivering a moment, beginner skater leans in … and slams. Gets up, tries once again. Slams. Tries again. Slams. Over and more than.

Its painful to watch.
As older skaters, it is even a lot more painful to discover this way. We really do not heal as fast as the kids at the park. We’re bigger, and we
slam harder. We have the chipped jaw bones and massive hippers to prove it.

So when you€™re ready to attempt dropping in, very first pad up. Then, enlist the aid of a close friend. Any trustworthy, tall, strong skater who knows ways to decline in will do. Have your buddy get within the ramp or bowl. You stand for the deck. Your buddy reaches up to you with both hands while you get down low, with your back foot on the tail of the board, and your tail within the coping.

Grab your friend’s hands. Place your front foot within the front bolts, lean in, pump the transition on the way down, and let your good friend gently break your fall when you hit pavement.

Get up unscathed. Repeat, making adjustments as necessary to the amount on the lean and also the timing with the pump. Maintain doing this till you feel totally comfortable dropping in whilst holding both of your friendâ€s hands. Then try holding only one hand as you decline. Retain practicing, until you are barely touching fingers, and then … let go.
It’s truly that easy.
You possibly can do it! We know you possibly can.

What’s Your Story?

Whenever you see someone who’s struggling to find out a trick or just to remain upright, be encouraging. I often struggle to perform a thing new and could use your help and encouragement.

Please do not believe I’ll discover as quickly as you; face it, I’m 43 and not in the best shape. If I fall, it takes me longer to get up, longer to heal. It has nothing to perform with the fact that I’m a woman. It’s just harder somehow after all of these years off the board.

I broke both femurs, shattered knees and one ankle in an auto accident years ago. I still have a titanium rod from hip to knee and lots of hardware. My legs are uneven and my memory isn’t the best from a closed brain injury. I’m not whining though; I’m stoked!

I’m in fact undertaking this again . . . and I can! Yeah, I’m pretty proud of myself too. I’m healed and nobody can see the scars under my kneepads, shorts and shoes.

So in the event you see me struggling with anything, cheer me on!!!! I€™m performing little carves and going using the flow and falling and obtaining correct back up.

If you’re thinking about obtaining out there and skating, nowâ€s the time. If I can do it so can you! I’ll be there cheering you on!

5 Best Tricks! Skateboard Vert

14 August, 2010 (17:09) | Skateboard Tricks Tips | By: admin

We’re getting close to the return of the Dew Tour, and I can’t wait! June 25th requirements to hurry up and get right here so I can see all of the crazy tricks I haven’t even imagined yet! The tour starts in Boston and need to give us some with the ideal skateboarding, BMX riding and FMX the world has actually seen. The Dew Tour, like the X Games, is known for progressing the disciplines of skateboarding, BMX, and FMX. The tour is five stops and is a season long contest. You can’t win one contest and get the cup, you have to be consistent through all five stops to have a chance at the crown. That being said, here are the five greatest skateboarding vert tricks actually thrown in a contest, according to me that’s.

Starting at #5 are each of the crazy kick flips which have been put down lately. I never thought the kick flip would be a normal part of a vert routine, but all of the finalists at last year’s X Games had at least 2 flip methods in their runs. From a regular kick flip to Danny Mayer’s kick flip Mc Twist, they are right here to stay in vert. The complexity of flipping the board, catching it, and placing back again beneath your feet is obvious upon initial viewing. Kick flips add a great amount of difficulty and excitement to any run.

On to #4, Shaun White’s 540 body varial, which he calls the Armadillo. The first time I saw this technique I was in total disbelief that he could rotate his body and board in that manner! Although carrying out a 540, he grabs the board with his back again hand in front of his front foot and spins the board around and tucks it back again below his feet with his hand on the back again of the board below his back foot. I had to watch the video of this strategy many times to comprehend everything that is happening. I have heard rumor that Shaun is working on adding a kick flip to this key and hope it’s true.

Coming in at #3 is Danny Mayer’s kick flip Mc Twist. When Danny gets into this technique it looks like he is not going to catch the flipping board as he rolls into the 540. He has to rotate the board when he kicks the flip so he’s truly carrying out a kick flip 180 so the board keeps up with the rotation of his body. This key is so challenging that it is won a few finest strategy contests for Mr. Mayer. Now, on for the heavy hitters!

At #2 are all of the 720s that have been landed. The video doesn’t show all of the crazy variations the riders are executing nowadays, but you get the point. PLG and Andy Macdonald perform different versions with the 720 in their normal vert routines. It wasn’t too lengthy ago when a 720 could win a greatest trick contest by itself and now it is become a staple!

#1 should be no surprise to anybody that loves vert: the huge 900. Tony Hawk started it all, but now at the least 4 people have landed this massive technique in competition. It’s challenging to imagine that Tony was that far ahead of everybody else, but he was.

That’s the list of the very best vert methods if you ask me, but now I am asking you. What do you believe are the greatest tricks actually thrown on a vert ramp?
